Don’t they know I’ve just been sentenced to Hell?
The weather isn’t bad today, it’s sunny enough that you don’t need a jacket but not quite warm enough for a tank top. I’m staring at my phone at a patio table, splinters spike into my legs but I’m too focused on my Sudoku to notice. I think a 1 would fit in here. Why am I even outside?
The screaming starts coming from behind me, cheering, excitement. One more number and I’ll look at what’s going on.
“Katie, Katie! You got in!” My mom is yelling at me and my brother is shaking my shoulders in congratulations. Looks like I’m not getting that last number in.
“Got in where?” I shift my body towards my computer catching the last bit of electronic confetti falling off the screen.
“You got into Franklin and Marshall, early decision!” Oh, that. A deflated yay slips out. How much longer do I have to pretend to be excited until they let me go back to playing Sudoku?
